Description
In this beginner course we’ll cover some of the basic tools and tips you’ll use over and over again as you progress in the software. By the end of this course you’ll have completed 4 different projects: A Simple Logo Reveal, A Lower Third Title, 4 Custom Transitions, and a Sexy Title Reveal!

We’ll discuss how to set up a composition, creating a title using the text tool and character settings, using the pen tool and it’s stroke to create a simple line, animating with the trim paths operation and the position and opacity parameters. Lastly, we’ll cover how to reveal a layer using masks.

We’ll discuss how to design a Lower Third using Shape Layers, Gradient Ramps, and After Effect’s other built in tools. Next, I will teach you how to create a simple animation using basic keyframes.

Next, I’ll teach you how to build your own custom transitions in After Effects using shape layers and basic keyframes to create a cascading animation for motion graphics.

I’ll also share a tip for changing the colors of all your layers throughout multiple compositions in one place, by using the Color Control effect and a simple expression.

Fun, easy, fast to render, and looks great! Use the basics I share to create your own unique transitions!

For the fourth and final project you’ll learn how to create a title using the text tool and character settings, animate using shape layers and the scale property, mirror layers, adjust keyframes, use track mattes, and create a stroke and background for your text. Lastly, we’ll cover how to polish the look by color correcting and creating a vignette.

After this course, you’ll have what you need to advance further in the software and tackle your first projects!

About the Instructor
Duncan Rogoff
Video Editing, Motion Graphics & Animation
Freelance video editor and motion graphics artist based in San Francisco, CA. Almost entirely self-taught and has spent many hours gaining knowledge from online tutorials on sites like Udemy.

I started my professional career in 2011 at a San Francisco ad agency, but I was cutting video long before that. This gave me both a solid foundation for work in multiple environments, a strong technical background, and the confidence to venture out on my own. Since then, I have freelanced in offices all over the Bay Area looking for places where I can advance my own skills and knowledge, develop strategy, and further brand. I am almost entirely self-taught and am extremely well-versed in all things post-production.

MOTION GRAPHICS ARE EVERYWHERE! I have created content to play on television, in sports arenas, in bank branches, on the web, in emails and internal presentations, at events, in movie theaters, and on social media. I have produced work that fits within brand guidelines, while continuing to be a part of the conversation and provide input as it relates to brand strategy and video.

I understand that each project has it’s own unique style and flow, and that story comes first. I enjoy exploration as well as designing with the client in mind. I am extremely proficient in Premiere Pro CC and have extensive knowledge of After Effects and Cinema 4d.

Always looking for new, fun, creative projects, and to keep learning.
